Advanced Eyecare offers the most innovative retinal imaging, the Daytona Optomap.
A retinal exam is an important part of your eye exam and Dr. Julie recommends the Optomap to every patient. It is especially important for those with high prescriptions or history of diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, or hypertension. The retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases can also be seen in the retina.
How does the Optomap help?
The Optomap digital retinal scan captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. Traditional methods typically reveal only 10-12% of your retina at one time. This unique view enhances the doctor's ability to detect even the earliest sign of disease. Dr. Julie can then review your images thoroughly and go over them with you.
How often should I have an Optomap scan?
Dr. Julie will advise based on your individual circumstances, but it is generally recommended that you have an Optomap photo at every comprehensive exam. This will ensure you have a digital record of your retinal health on file that can be compared over time.
Will I need to be dilated, does it hurt?
The Optomap retinal exam is fast, easy, and comfortable. It takes only seconds to perform, is not painful, and typically does not require dilation. However, for care reasons, dilation may still be required.
